Gallery Furniture will hold a job fair for its two Houston area locations on Thursday, April 30 from 9am-4pm at the 6006 North Freeway store.

Approximately 50 jobs will be available with the Houston furniture retailer who has been a Houston institution since 1981.

First Annual George C. McIngvale, Jr. Memorial Golf & Tennis Classic

In memory of their brother, George McIngvale, Jr., Jim “Mattress Mack” and Ralph McIngvale are hosting the First Annual George C. McIngvale, Jr. Memorial Golf & Tennis Classic benefiting St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System and the American Heart Association.

The event, to be held on Friday, May 15, at the Northgate Country Club, will include a shotgun modified golf scramble as well as a doubles tennis tournament and other tennis events. A live auction and cocktail reception will immediately follow the tournaments.

“We want to celebrate our brother’s life while honoring his tradition of giving back to the community,” said Ralph McIngvale. “With his love of sports, especially golf and tennis, it seems only fitting to hold this tournament in his honor.”

Tennis activities include a doubles tournament, which begins on Friday at 3 p.m., with prize money offered. A Ladies Drill and Play Day begins at 9 a.m. and includes fun drills and doubles round robin play followed by lunch and a silent auction. Tennis activities continue through Saturday with a Tennis Pro Am Tournament from 9 a.m. until noon, Exhibition Match from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Tennis Carnival for children from 3 to 5 p.m.

Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure

Komen Houston Affiliate to hold 18th Annual Pink Ribbon Reception

The Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® will hold the 18th Annual Pink Ribbon Reception, Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 p.m. at Macy’s Galleria at Hidalgo. 

 

The event, sponsored by Macy’s and emceed by KHMX’s Michele Fisher, will feature the latest fashions as breast cancer survivors take to the catwalk.  Attendees will also have a chance to vote for their favorite Diva, Dame or Dude of the evening. Each vote is $1 and will help support the fight to end breast cancer.

 

In addition, the Affiliate will also unveil its latest project, Photovoice.  Developed by Caroline C. Wang of the University of Michigan and Mary Ann Burris, research associate of the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, Photovoice combines photography with grassroots social action.

 

Komen Houston Affiliate participants were asked to capture and illustrate the barriers that face breast cancer patients by taking photographs and allowing the pictures to speak for themselves. By encapsulating the challenges as seen through their lens, Photovoice allows the community to gain a better understanding of the strides that still need to be made to eradicate breast cancer.

Sen. Hutchison, Texas Families to Discuss Government Spending Spree on Tax Day

 On Tuesday, the day that Texans across the state will file their taxes, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R–TX), Texas’ senior Senator, will join with young Texas families to discuss the growing burden being placed on taxpayers by excessive government spending.

HUNT FOR AN EGG-CELLENT CAUSE

Houston Children’s Charity will host its 11th Annual Easter Party at the Northland Christian School, April 4 at 1:00 p.m.

 

This year’s event, which previously brought over 400 children and families from the Houston area, will feature a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, and other family friendly activities. There will also be games and prizes, as well as an Easter egg hunt with Easter baskets for all children and a special guest appearance from the Easter Bunny.    

 

Food will be generously provided by Wendy’s Restaurants® and delivered by Wendy herself. Coca-Cola America and Borden’s Milk will provide drinks for attendees.   

 

Houston Children’s Charity is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houston’s underprivileged, abused, and handicapped children who have been otherwise left behind. The scope of our support is limited only by the availability of resources. Our goal, the rainbow that we chase, is to let no legitimate request for assistance go unanswered.
