The Houston Rockets and Republic Services are teaming up for the Rockets Recycling Round-Up, an inaugural program to entertain and educate area elementary students on the importance of recycling in their homes, schools and communities.
To kick off the program and engage students, Rockets high energy mascot Clutch will visit 9 Houston schools, for an “edutainment” presentation on the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.
After the visit, the schools will compete for a two week period to see who can collect the most recycling per student. The winning school will receive:
•An awards ceremony, February 25 hosted at their school by Clutch and a Houston Rockets player
•50 tickets (25 students) to the Rockets Environmental Awareness Game presented by Republic Services vs. Toronto on March 1 where they will receive special recognition at the game
•A field trip to tour the Republic Recyclery including an educational experience on recycling
•1000 re-useable shopping bags
In addition to the program, all students at the participating schools will receive recycling themed giveaways from the Rockets and Republic Services and the opportunity to learn how to make their school and community a greener place.
“Republic Services of Houston is excited to partner with HISD and the Houston Rockets on this very important recycling initiative to showcase and support these great schools and students in their efforts to become more environmentally aware,” Mark Powell, Republic Services. “We look forward to a wonderful competition that will result in more recyclable goods and also begin a culture to help create a sustainable program.”
