How can you support our armed forces? Get a Wendy’s Frosty.

Our Central Texas Wendy’s client filmed a segment this week with KCEN (the Waco-Temple-Killeen NBC affiliate). On May 23rd, they are running an all-day phonebank to raise money and awareness of the United Service Organization (USO) at Fort Hood. For those who don’t know, Fort Hood spans much of the middle of the state of Texas. It’s huge. Look on a Google map and look at the gray area in the middle of Texas. That’s it. It’s the home to III Corps (pronounced “three core”) and thousands of troops and their families.

Left to right: Robin Crouse, Director USO Ft. Hood; James Hays, President and CEO of Central Texas Wendy’s; Isabella Hubbard, Ft. Hood USO

As many are coming home from overseas, our client wanted a way to give back and support them. We tailored a Wendy’s Frosty Key Tag promotion for them, and this is the third year of supporting the USO at Ft. Hood. Here’s how it works. Go to Wendy’s and buy a Frosty key tag for $1. The proceeds will go directly to the USO at Ft. Hood; the funds stay here in Texas supporting our troops. What do you get out of it? Well, this year, at participating Texas Wendy’s, just show your key tag at the register and get a free Jr Frosty with any purchase! The USO key tags will be sold at Waco, Temple, Killeen and Copperas Cove Wendy’s from the week of Memorial Day through July 4th. Over the past two years, Central Texas Wendy’s has raised over $15,000 for the USO at Ft. Hood!

P.S. This year, you can buy and redeem a Wendy’s Frosty key tag at any participating Wendy’s in Texas! Some are selling them right now.

P.P.S. Fries and a Frosty are particularly good on the hot summer days.

P.P.P.S. I’ll have a #2 Dave’s Hot N’ Juicy (no ketchup), large fry, large Coke, Frosty Key Tag and a Jr. Frosty!

Meet Virginia

It's not just about handouts, it's about getting your hands dirty.

Love Advertising’s own Virginia Vorster was voted volunteer of the month for Habitat for Humanity! She was chosen by the board of directors who must select one person from their more than 2,600 volunteers. Virginia also donated money to Habitat for Humanity provided by the Love Matters program.

The Love Matters program, started in 2010, was established to encourage Love employees to get involved in their communities. Virginia’s exemplary work with Habitat is the exact reason Love Matters was created.

Congratulations, Virginia, it was well-deserved. We’re all very proud of you!

Sight into Sound Dinner Heightened Houston’s Senses

Love Advertising is proud of its work with non-profits and has been working with many organizations on special events and fundraisers for many years now. One of our clients is particularly dear to our hearts, Sight into Sound, formally known as Taping for the Blind.

Sight into Sound serves adults and children who have experienced vision loss, physical challenges such as a stroke, or learning disabilities such as dyslexia. They provide a 24-7 broadcast of current in-depth readings of newspapers, paper for sale, magazines and books, custom recordings and live descriptions of cultural and entertainment events.

Most of the funds used to operate this organization are given through grant dollars, donations or from fundraising events. One of the most successful events is Dining in the Dark. Event attendees partake in an exquisite four-course meal, eating one course blindfolded. Guests this year were also entertained by the soulful vocals of Grammy nominated recording artist Mary Griffin. She performed music by blind legendary artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Andrea Bocelli, Diane Schuur and Ronnie Milsap.

Check out a few of the Love’s friends and employee’s enjoying the extravagant event.

We caught Billie peeking to be sure everyone else had their blindfolds on.

Then… she showed off her talent of putting on lipstick while blindfolded.

Jasmine Williams, executive director of Sight into Sound, thanks Lindsey Love for co-chairing the event, while Vivian Weiss, talks about how good the paella smelled on its way out of the kitchen.

Smelling, tasting, and hearing the food?

Love’s public relations team assisted with promotion and coordination of this year’s event on January 22 at Hotel ZaZa. Our very own Brenda Love was recognized as the Corporate Honoree for her non-profit work in the Houston community.

The $53,459 raised by the 190 guests during this year’s event will assist the organization to provide their services free of charge to thousands of adults and children in the Houston area.

Gallery Furniture Continues to Give Back to Houstonians in Need

Last Tuesday night was a very special night at Westside Tennis & Fitness Club, as a panel of judges, including prominent business leaders and media from Houston came together in support of the 28th Annual Gallery Furniture Holiday Giveaway. And Love’s very own Billie Van Slyke, Jessica Manning and I had the pleasure of partaking in this event as well.

All the participants mingled, munched and most importantly, read through numerous touching stories submitted by friends and family of the nominees in need. By the end of the evening, 20 exceptional and deserving families were chosen to receive a house full of furniture this holiday season.

Throughout the next week, Gallery Furniture will deliver furniture specifically selected to fit each family’s needs based on the letters submitted by family and friends describing the situation.

For the past 27 years Gallery Furniture has granted holiday wishes for Houston families in need. This year, a total of thirty deserving families will be granted a full house of furniture. Check out all the letters under that Christmas tree! Gallery Furniture received over 4,500 letters this year.

Each delivery is documented by Gallery Furniture with photos. Here are some of the photo albums Gallery Furniture has collected over the years.

After reading through the heart-wrenching stories on Tuesday night, it served as a reminder of how fortunate many of us are and that it is extremely important to give back, especially during the holiday season. Whether it is donating winter clothes to a shelter, volunteering your time or raising money for a cause you believe in, remember to help those in need in your own community and give thanks for what you have and love those dear to you.

Happy Holidays!
